Breast Augmentation and how it can help you

This procedure is very popular with women because it works to change the size of a woman’s breast as per her needs. However, breast augmentation does more than just increase breast size. It can also help restore breast volume after weight reduction or following pregnancy and breastfeeding. It can improve symmetry or be used for reconstruction after mastectomy or injury. Breast implants restore volume back to the breasts to create an aesthetically pleasing and balanced silhouette.

How do I start my Breast augmentation journey?

The first step is to ask yourself why you are doing it? And the answer could not be more straightforward, you should be doing it for your own benefit and no one\’s else. The next step is to be able to talk about it, how you feel about it, explain what you like or dislike, and know what you want. Try not to be vague about your request, it is much better to be specific about what you are looking to correct. Are you looking to lift saggy breasts? or are you looking to increase your cup size and how many cup sizes. Once you’ve decided what you want, you should do your own research. It’s important not to trust just one single source of information, especially if you are only using online patients\’ forums to get info. You should read as much as you can about the topic. Testimonials from other women can not just offer you valuable insights but can also help you prepare mentally for the procedure.

Is there something this surgery can’t fix?

If your goal is to fix drooping breasts, this surgery alone can’t fix the issue. Breast lifts are the right surgery through which dropping breasts can be corrected.

Breast Implant Revision

If you’ve had breast implants for a number of years and aren’t completely happy with the outcome, your breasts have changed significantly over time, or you have developed a medical concern, then breast augmentation revision may be an option for you.

Capsular Contracture

After the breast implant is inserted into place, the body forms a capsule \”scar\” around the implant. Normally the tissue is soft and pliable, but in some cases the tissue can become extremely hard which then puts pressure on the implant which can cause pain and lead to shape deformity. Breast implant revision works to rectify this issue. Breast Implant Rupture The silicone shell which encases breast implants can rupture i.e. a tear or hole. The valve on a saline filled implant can also break and create a leak. The rupture could be caused by a number of reasons such as wear and tear, after accidents/trauma, by device failure or inserting of needle during medical procedures. Breast augmentation revision is the procedure which solves the issue.

What are the drivers that motivate women to get Breast Surgery?

Getting breast implants is a decision that is extremely personal to the individual. There could be a number of reasons as to why someone would choose to do so.

Self-Esteem

Dissatisfaction with one’s body image is a primary motivator. Small breasts can affect a woman’s self-confidence and esteem to a great extent and augmentation can help mitigate self-image issues. However, one should get augmentation done only for oneself and not be pressured into getting work done for a partner.

Asymmetrical Breasts

Disproportionate sizes in breasts, where one breast is larger than the other often leads to women opting for surgery to create a more symmetrical look.

Post-pregnancy

Many women discover that their breasts have changed. Sagging or changes in the breast structure are common, and breast implants help restore firmness and fullness.

Weight Loss

After losing a significant amount of weight, loss in volume of breast tissue is expected, surgery then helps bring back volume lost.

Mastectomy

Conditions such as breast cancer or other ailments which lead to mastectomy may lead to women feeling less feminine. Breast augmentation in conjunction with breast reconstruction works wonders in restoring women’s sense of confidence.

Body Image Issues

Often women find it hard to find clothing that sits comfortably on their bodies due to their breasts being disproportionate to the size of their bodies, opting for breast augmentation often makes dressing considerably easier.

Ageing

As women grow older, the changes in the breast tissue such as sagging and loss in volume can become noticeable. Breast implants create a youthful appearance which boost esteem.

Types of Breast Implants

There are two types of breasts: Saline and Silicone Breast Implants. Saline implants have silicone shells which are filled with saline, or sterile salt water. The implant may be already filled or could be filled during the procedure. Silicone gel-filled implants, as the name suggests are filled with cohesive silicone gel, and are often preferred by women as they feel softer to touch and more similar to natural breast tissue.

What are the costs of Breast Surgery?

The costs for breast augmentation vary depending upon the expertise of the surgeon, the type of implant and the location. Starting from $7,000 the cost can go up to $12,000 for a primary breast augmentation (not revision) depending on the practitioner and their level of experience, the type and brand of implant chosen, the facility where the procedure is undertaken and the type of anaesthetic used. Private insurance may not cover this procedure because it is, most commonly, a cosmetic procedure.
